The inspiration behind the design of the Abraidi white paper stems from the idea of crossing oceans and integrating distant lands. The abstract forms, reminiscent of cubist art, represent the concept of "seeing the planet from above." These graphic metaphors of ocean-separated continents are applied throughout the publication, creating a visual rhythm that adds depth and intrigue to the pages.
What sets the Abraidi white paper apart is its use of abstract elements that dictate the publication's rhythm and function as clippings of the Earth's cartographic plane. The composition of the whole and the junction of all continents surrounded by water metaphorically and abstractly come together in this unique design. Additionally, the photos in the publication are composed using a blend of CMYK and metallic Pantone inks, offering a hybrid and visually captivating look.
The realization of the Abraidi white paper involved a combination of offset printing techniques. The cover, with its symmetrical flaps, provides a panoramic and continuous view of the abstract cartographic composition when fully opened. The core of the publication was printed on matte coated paper to soften the reflective aspect of the metallic colors, ensuring the readability of the graphics.
Technical specifications for the Abraidi white paper include a sheet size of 420 x 297 mm and a print format of 210 x 297 mm. The cover, printed on Supremo Duo Design 300 g/m2, measures 800 x 297 mm. The publication is composed of 92 pages printed on Fosco couch 150 g/m2.
The Abraidi white paper is not just a visually stunning publication; it also serves a functional purpose. It marks the entity's fiscal year and sets guidelines for the following year. The aesthetic and graphic aspects of the publication play a crucial role in validating its relevance for the sector and giving it a sense of permanence.
The design project for the Abraidi white paper was completed between February and March 2018 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Laika team, led by Ruis Vargas, approached the project with a focus on constructing meaning and designing small graphic narratives that would be relevant to the brand. The result is a publication that not only informs but also captivates the reader with its artistic and aesthetic appeal.
The Abraidi white paper, designed by Ruis Vargas and his team at Laika, has received recognition for its excellence in print and published media design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade that celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations. This award recognizes the Abraidi white paper for its ability to meet professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
